Does CVS Print Polaroids? Retro Prints vs Real Film

Short answer: no, not on instant film. CVS prints retro prints: four polaroid-style photos on one 4x6 sheet of regular photo paper, usually 99 cents a sheet, from the Kodak kiosk in store or the CVS Photo site with same-day pickup. You cut them apart yourself. From across the room they pass for polaroids. In your hand they're thin glossy paper, not Polaroid or Instax film.
That's not a knock. At roughly 25 cents a print and ready in minutes, CVS retro prints are the cheapest polaroid look you can get today. Here's exactly what the kiosk makes, how to order it, how it compares to real film, and what to do when you want the real thing.
What CVS actually prints
- Four to a sheet. The kiosk lays four retro-style photos on a single 4x6 print, each one about 2 x 3 inches with a white border and a wider strip at the bottom. You trim them apart with scissors or a paper cutter.
- It's photo paper. Standard glossy lab paper, the same stock as a regular 4x6. The border is printed ink, not a frame.
- It's cheap. The usual price is about 99 cents per sheet, so around a quarter per photo. Promotions and store pricing vary.
- It's fast. The in-store Kodak kiosk prints while you wait, and online orders are usually ready for same-day pickup.
Can you print polaroids at CVS? You can print things shaped like polaroids at CVS. Whether that's enough depends on what the photos are for.
How to order them
- At the kiosk: connect your phone (the kiosk offers a QR code, Bluetooth or a cable), then look under Prints or Creative Prints for Retro Prints or Mini Prints. Check the preview, because the kiosk crops each photo to fit the frame.
- Online: on the CVS Photo site or app, choose Prints, pick the retro or mini print option, upload, and select a store for pickup.
- Afterwards: cut the sheet into four. A paper trimmer gives straighter edges than scissors, and the edges are the first thing that gives the print away.
CVS retro print vs real instant film
On a phone screen they look the same. Side by side on a table they don't.
| CVS retro print | Real instant film | |
|---|---|---|
| The border | White ink printed on the paper | A physical frame around the film packet |
| Size | About 2 x 3 in, cut from a 4x6 sheet | Instax Mini 2.1 x 3.4 in, Square 2.4 x 2.4 in |
| Feel | Thin and flexible, with your own cut edges | Stiff, closer to a credit card, factory edges |
| Surface | Standard gloss photo paper | Deep gloss with visible depth under the image |
| Color | Accurate, neutral lab color | Film's softer contrast and warmer highlights |
| Price per print | About 25 cents | About $2.40–4.40 ordered, shipping included |
| Speed | Minutes at the kiosk, same-day pickup online | A few days by mail, or instantly with your own printer |
When CVS is the right call
- You need them today, or in the next hour.
- You want a lot of them for a locker, a banner, a bulletin board or party favors, where a quarter a print beats everything else.
- They'll be seen, not handled: taped to a wall, strung on a garland, tucked behind a scrapbook sleeve.
If that's you, go to CVS. Bring a paper trimmer.
When it isn't
A gift, a keepsake, a wedding favor, anything someone will pick up and turn over. The thin paper and hand-cut edges are obvious the moment it's held, and "it's a real polaroid" is usually the whole point of giving one. For those, you want actual film.
Walgreens and Walmart play the same game with slightly different products; we covered Walgreens retro mini prints and Walmart's retro print sets separately.
How to get real instant film prints instead
If the reason you want "polaroids" is the object itself, the gloss, the stiff card, the real border, for a gift or a keepsake, you need actual instant film. There are three ways to get it from phone photos:
- Buy an Instax printer (about $100) and film. Best if you'll print a lot; our Instax printer math puts the break-even around 75–80 prints.
- Buy a Polaroid Lab (about $140), which exposes Polaroid film from your phone screen. Real Polaroid film at roughly $2.50 a shot.
- Order prints from us. We print your phone photos on genuine Fujifilm Instax film and mail them, from $18 for 5 with free US shipping. No hardware to buy.
We laid every route, drugstore included, side by side on our print photos as polaroids page, with what each costs and who it suits.

Does CVS print polaroids?
Not on instant film. CVS prints retro-style photos on regular photo paper, four to a 4x6 sheet, with a white polaroid-style border printed around each image. You cut them apart yourself. They're cheap and fast, but they aren't Polaroid or Instax film.
How much are polaroid-style prints at CVS?
Usually about 99 cents for a 4x6 sheet of four retro prints, so roughly 25 cents per photo. Prices and promotions vary by store, so check the kiosk or the CVS Photo site for the current price.
Can you print polaroids at CVS the same day?
Yes. The in-store Kodak kiosk prints retro prints while you wait, and online orders are usually ready for same-day pickup. They're paper prints, though, not instant film.
Are CVS retro prints the same size as Instax Mini?
Close but not the same. A CVS retro print is about 2 x 3 inches once cut from the sheet. A real Instax Mini print is 2.1 x 3.4 inches with a thicker, stiffer body and a factory-cut edge.
Does CVS sell Instax or Polaroid film?
It varies by store. If you need film today, Walgreens and Walmart both list Fujifilm Instax Mini film on their sites, so check stock online before driving. Film only helps if you own an Instax camera or printer; the photo counter can't print on it for you.
